[RP Town Announce] Charter Amendment introduced

Last night an amendment to the Town Charter was 
introduced at a Special Legislative meeting.  The 
amendment as introduced is below; it will come 
before the council for adoption on Monday, 
December 5, 2005.  If passed, it will become 
effective after 40 days.

Charter Resolution 2005-CR-xx
An Amendment to Section 510 of the Charter of the Town of Riverdale Park

Whereas, Article V of the Charter only addresses 
the question of a Runoff Election in connection 
with the biennial general election of the Mayor 
and Council,
and,

Whereas, a special election may also require a runoff election,

Therefore, be it resolved to amend Section 510, 
Special Elections, by adding the following 
language: (Added language is shown in blue

§510: Special Elections

All special town elections shall be conducted by 
the council in the same manner and with the same 
personnel, as far as practicable, as set forth in 
§ 508 of this charter.  If the results of a 
special election require the town to hold a 
runoff election, the runoff election shall be 
held in accordance with the procedures of §511 
with the following  exception: the council shall 
schedule the runoff election to be held no 
earlier than the twenty-first day, nor later than 
the thirtieth day following the date of the 
special election.
