New Legislative Management System Strengthens Transparency; Provides Greater Online Access

 

The Prince George’s County Council has launched a new multi-dimensional legislative management software system to provide greater efficiency, transparency, and accessibility for those seeking official legislative and zoning information online. The new Legislative/Zoning Information System or LZIS <http://links.govdelivery.com:80/track?type=click&enid=ZWFzPTEmbWFpbGluZ2lkPTIwMTUxMTI0LjUxODU3MzUxJm1lc3NhZ2VpZD1NREItUFJELUJVTC0yMDE1MTEyNC41MTg1NzM1MSZkYXRhYmFzZWlkPTEwMDEmc2VyaWFsPTE3NTE5NTE2JmVtYWlsaWQ9YWxob2x0QGNvLnBnLm1kLnVzJnVzZXJpZD1hbGhvbHRAY28ucGcubWQudXMmZmw9JmV4dHJhPU11bHRpdmFyaWF0ZUlkPSYmJg==&&&100&&&https://princegeorgescountymd.legistar.com/>  replaces the former Legislative Information System (LIS).   

 

Public online audiences now have a user-friendly way to follow the latest legislative and zoning actions of the County Council through a comprehensive records and video repository. The new LZIS system includes searchable access to bill, resolution and zoning case status as well as summaries, text, and the legislative history of each Council Member.   Additionally, the new technology features effective display on mobile devices; the ability to narrow and refine search results; alerts, RSS feed and multiple sharing options; user-friendly access to calendars, agendas, and minutes; a digitized version of the County Code and County Charter; and live and “on-demand” video of Council sessions and meetings.

 

Council Chairman Mel Franklin (D) – District 9, sees this project as a vital Council initiative that reflects the Council’s commitment to promote open government.

Finding and using legislative information is easier, the information provided is more comprehensive, and no matter what device you are using, County legislative and zoning information is accessible. Implementing the advanced tools of this new technology further opens the legislative process to our residents, promoting a more informed and engaged citizenry.”

 

The new legislative management system capabilities are driven by Granicus, a cloud computing provider for nearly 1,000 government agencies across the country.  

 

 

 

All legislative powers of Prince George’s County are vested in the County Council.  The County Council sits as the District Council on zoning and land use policy, and as the Board of Health to govern and guide health policy.  The County Council meets as a legislative body on Tuesdays in the Council Hearing Room on the first floor of the County Administration Building in Upper Marlboro.
