Prince George's County Deploys County Street Teams for Pedestrian Safety Education and Enforcement

LARGO, MD- Prince George’s County will be bringing increased focus to the issue of bicycle and pedestrian safety beginning with supporting the launch of the regional semi-annual Street Smart Campaign on Monday, April 11, 2016.

 

Throughout the month of April, the Department of Public Works & Transportation (DPW&T) will deploy a series of Street Teams to High Incidence Areas to educate the public on the rules of the road.  On Thursday, April 14, 2016 DPW&T will join the Prince George’s County Police Department at Donnell Drive and Marlboro Pike for distribution of pedestrian safety literature and enforcement activities.   

 

The initiative will remind motorist, pedestrians and bicyclists of the rules of the road, and the dangerous consequences of not adhering to traffic safety laws.  “We are committed to reducing the number of pedestrian fatalities in Prince George’s County, and the street teams plays an important education and awareness role in that effort.”, says Darrell B. Mobley, Director of DPW&T.

 

The street teams represent a component of DPW&T’s comprehensive Pedestrian Safety Program which is guided by the 4 E’s of Road Safety:  Education, Enforcement, Engineering, and Emergency Services.  They are part of a sustained effort to reduce the number of pedestrian deaths in Prince George’s County which will also feature the wrapping of three of its buses with images and messages prompting drivers to “Slow Down and Watch for Pedestrians”.
