Statement of Prince George's County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III Regarding Resolution Authorizing FBI Headquarters Project to Move Forward

Upper Marlboro, MD - Prince George's County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, released this statement after the U.S. House of Representatives Transportation & Infrastructure Committee passed a resolution today to authorize the General Services Administration to move ahead with the FBI Headquarters relocation project, pending Congressional appropriation of the necessary funding. This is a vital pre-condition to providing a new, fully consolidated, secure, headquarters for the 11,000 employees of the FBI. Prince George's County has two of the final three potential sites at the Greenbelt Metro Station and at the former Landover Mall property in Landover. The third potential site is in Springfield, Virginia.
"I want to express my sincerest appreciation to Representative Steny Hoyer, Senators Barbara Mikulski and Benjamin Cardin, and the rest of the Maryland Delegation for their efforts and support to bring the FBI to Prince George's County. This Resolution is a critical milestone and I am confident that Maryland will continue to stand together as we focus on securing the full $1.4 Billion needed to fund this project.
As "Team Maryland," I am proud that local, state, and federal leaders, along with our private sector stakeholders, have been unified, working collaboratively with the GSA and FBI as this Request for Proposals (RFP) moves into the final stages. Bringing the FBI to Prince George's County would be a game changer and is a once in a generation opportunity. That is why this effort is such a high priority for the County and the State of Maryland. We are confident that our two sites, in Landover and Greenbelt, are superior by every possible measure to Virginia's site and we are committed to making our vision for a new FBI headquarters in Prince George's County, MD a reality."
