Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Students
Explore Career Options at Pepco

Washington, D.C. (August 23, 2018) - As students across Maryland and the District of Columbia head back to school, Pepco reminds customers of its commitment to education, specifically in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), workforce development, and scholarships for higher education. In addition to its own programs, Pepco also supports local community partners with education-focused initiatives.

"Every day, we are working to support the important programs and efforts that are educating and preparing our young people to be the future leaders of tomorrow," said David Vosvick, vice president of human resources for Pepco Holdings. "Through our internship programs, we provide young people with the resources, training and experiences they need to be successful in today's competitive workforce, while at the same time introducing them to the myriad of possibilities available through a career at one of the nation's leading energy providers."

This year, a record 65 college students successfully completed the engineering internship program through Atlantic City Electric, Delmarva Power, and Pepco. Students gained hands-on experience in their chosen fields of study, including pre-engineering, electrical construction, and computer-assisted design. Several of those students will be offered full-time employment at these companies over the upcoming weeks and begin their careers in the energy industry. Also, 37 students from area high schools and various community organizations, including the D.C. Student Youth Enrichment Program, Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Summer R.I.S.E., participated in Pepco's high school internship programs.

In March 2018, Pepco announced a partnership with the District of Columbia to create the D.C. Infrastructure Academy<http://thesource.pepcoholdings.com/pepco/connecting-communities/pepco-exelon-district-open-dc-infrastructure-academy>. As part of this partnership, Pepco will donate $500,000 over the next five years in cash contributions, human resources services, and equipment for the academy to provide high-quality, specialized trainings to District residents to help secure high-paying, long-term employment in the infrastructure industry.

Pepco also is a proud sponsor of KID Museum<https://kid-museum.org/> in Bethesda, Md., which offers a unique, hands-on STEM learning experience to children and their families in the region. With a focus on diversity and inclusion, KID Museum has created a state-of-the-art education center and cultural gathering place for the entire community.

On July 30, Pepco helped recognize five local high students at the 2018 American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) scholarship awards luncheon held at the Pepco Edison Place Gallery. The annual scholarships are given to local high school students pursuing continued education in energy-related fields. Each scholarship recipient received a $2,000 scholarship and vouchers to buy additional school supplies.

Exelon, Pepco's parent company, also remains committed to supporting investment in STEM education. In 2017, Exelon contributed more than $10 million to education programs and initiatives; awarded nearly 20 percent of its contributions to fields related to education and academic enrichment; and celebrated the 12-year anniversary of the "Stay in School" initiative which has helped keep more than 27,000 students on track to graduate. As part of ongoing efforts to empower young women and advance gender equality, this year the Exelon Foundation, with the UN Women HeForShe initiative, launched the STEM Innovation Leadership Academy for teen girls in Chicago and Washington, D.C., with plans to expand to additional cities where the company operates.
