Conservation Period Called for Peak Energy Saving Credit and Participating Pepco Energy Wise Rewards™ Customers

WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 18, 2018) – A conservation period will be called from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, for Pepco’s Maryland customers, and for Pepco’s Maryland and District of Columbia customers participating in Energy Wise Rewards.

Pepco’s Maryland customers are able to participate in the Peak Energy Savings Credit program, which rewards customers by offering a bill credit of $1.25 for every kilowatt hour (kWh) of reduced energy use below the customer’s average energy use during specific hours on a Peak Savings Day. Pepco Maryland customers will receive a phone call indicating the hours to reduce energy use. Customers can also choose to be notified by email or text.

For Maryland and District of Columbia customers participating in Pepco’s Energy Wise Rewards, a conservation period will be called from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. This means that Pepco will cycle participants’ air conditioner compressors off and on for short intervals. Because the air conditioner fan will continue to run, most customers will not notice a temperature change in their home. It may take up to a half-hour after the event ends for air conditioners to resume normal operations.

Peak Energy Savings Credit and Energy Wise Rewards are voluntary programs. Energy Wise Rewards offers customers a choice of a web-programmable thermostat or an outdoor switch, which the utility installs at no charge.
