COUNTY EXECUTIVE ALSOBROOKS OFFICIALLY LAUNCHES ALSOBROOKS SUMMER PASSPORT EXPERIENCE
Program Provides Engaging Summer Activities for Young People Ages 12 to 18

LARGO, MD -Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks announced today that registration is now open for the Alsobrooks Summer Passport Experience, a new initiative giving youth ages 12 to 18 throughout the County a variety of safe and fun activities to choose from this summer. Activities offered are based upon the 3 E's: Education, Entrepreneurship, and Entertainment.

"We know that so many of our young people are looking for fun and safe activities to do this summer, so we are excited to officially open registration for the Alsobrooks Summer Passport Experience," said Alsobrooks. "As a community, we all need to work together to provide positive experiences for our young people. I'm proud that so many community partners are stepping up and supporting our efforts to create safe spaces for our children to gather and grow this summer."

The Summer Passport Experience is a partnership between the Office of the County Executive, the Office of Community Relations, the Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission, the Prince George's County Police Athletic League (PGC PAL), the Office of Emergency Management, businesses, non-profits, and other organizations. Examples of programs being offered include:

EDUCATION

  *   Drones, Cybersecurity and Media
  *   Financial Literacy and Wealth Building
  *   Beautiful Girls Inside and Out (physical and mental healthcare)
  *   Six Flags STEM and Theme Park Administration
  *   Youth Speaks Series (Arts/Media/Broadcasting, Environmental Stewardship, "This is NOT Cuffing Season")

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

  *   Owning Your Own Retail Business and Owning Your Own Franchise
  *   Careers in Plumbing 101
  *   Careers in Barbering 101 and Cosmetology 101
  *   "Shark Tank"

Youth will be able to select two options within each category. Selections do not guarantee placement, but all youth who are placed will receive at least two opportunities. In addition, all youth who are placed will receive a "Passport," program t-shirt and program bracelet.

The program costs just $20 for all who participate. Youth who are placed must pick up Passports and program materials on June 28 between 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM at the Sports & Learning Complex in Landover. Youth that have not yet been vaccinated will have the opportunity to do so while picking up materials at the Sports & Learning Complex.

The County Executive and community partners created the Summer Passport Experience in response to an increase in criminal activity among young people, a national trend due to the pandemic. The goal of the program is to provide young people safe opportunities to learn and socialize in structured environments during the summer.
