Your October Town Crier should arrive in today's mail (Friday 9/30/05).

A feature article is about potential flooding in Riverdale Park,
including a FEMA flood plain map of our town.

While fact checking the article, I discovered that PG Dept
of Environmental Resources (PGDER) has more recent and more
accurate flood maps then FEMA's maps. And that there may be
significant areas of Riverdale Park in the flood plain on PGDER
maps that are not shown in the flood plain on the FEMA maps.
Unfortunately, I have not seen the PGDER maps, so I cannot
confirm this.

I asked PGDER to come to Riverdale Park day and they agreed
to come and set up a Flood Awareness booth complete with
their updated maps (this Saturday, Oct 1, Noon to 5 pm on
the Riversdale Mansion grounds).

So to get the latest and best knowledge about
flood risks in Riverdale Park, read my article then head
over to Riverdale Park Day to see the latest maps.

By the way, when we went to press PGDER had only promised
to "try" to bring their maps, but I have since received
confirmation that they will be there with their maps.

Ideally we would have a good TOPO map there too.
Does anyone have one? I have an online one that I
printed out, but it is difficult to read.

See you at Riverdale Park Day
-Rob
