[RP TownTalk] Stipend increase

Everyone has been doing such a good job expressing themselves about the council/mayor increase that I've remained silent.

But I now have to ask - what's up with abstaining? What does that mean? Isn't this what people volunteer to do, to understand what the ward wants and cast a vote accordingly? I'm new to politics so would appreciate someone shedding a light on this.

Do we need a town petition to get the increase passed? I volunteer to collect signatures! Let's not shame ourselves by not fairly compensating our hard working council and mayor for the personal time they sacrifice to make our town better.

True, the county council is paid nearly 40 times our stipend, but
I am not looking for big bucks - just less of a burden.

To do this job well takes a lot of time and responsibility.

A stipend that pays roughly the same hourly wage as our lowest unskilled
laborer position would be fine.

And I really do want to encourage people to run for office.
Having choices at our ballot box is an important part of democracy.

Audrey, you have always given generously of your time to this town.
I hope you will continue to do so. Indeed, I hope you will consider running for office.
Your time, energy and can-do attitude would be an asset to the council.

Danielle --

I've called and left a message, but I wanted to let you know:

The single battery operated lights are stocked in good number at the Lowe's
in New Carrollton. I saw several boxes worth last night [12/5]. I believe
they were about $3 each.

The location information for that particular Lowe's is
7710 Riverdale Road New Carrollton, MD 20784
(301) 918-6406
Fax: (301) 918-6420
M-SA 6am - 10pm, SU 8am - 8pm

I haven't seen either spray snow or stencils in the usual places. Though,
if need be, the stencils can be cut out of contact paper.

I hope this helps!

Please let me know (off list) if you are interested in participating in
the planning of the trolley line hiker/biker trail thru Riverdale Park -
connecting College Park (and its metro station) with RP and Hy.

We are in the early stages of this concept to build a paved hiker biker trail that
follows the old trolley line. It would run from town center ...
north (to the left of Greg's towing) then straight up to College Park,
and south parallel to the train tracks to Hyattsville and the EYA development.

So the legislation did not pass, despite the fact that there were 3 votes
yes, and zero votes no?
3 to 0 means victory to me. Right? Abstain means no vote at all, so that
means 3-0. 3-0 should not equal a loss. But rules are rules.
Gotta' love local politics! Sheesh!

I was in my "favorite" corner store today and saw Pete and Jim. I
understand there is a meeting tonight to discuss a new proposal. Can
someone give an overview of tonight meeting, objectives, agenda, etc. I
have a meeting conflict, but I want to understand whether tonight will be
the only presentation of the new proposal, or will there be another "town
meeting" presentation. Thank you in advance.

Make certain Pat gives you the old trolley study, done when the Trolley
Museum was going to build at Cafritz.

watching now. great to be able to tune in from home. couldn't help
but notice -- and be amused by -- the fact that the clock showing on
channel 71 before the cameras came on in the meeting room was off by
about an hour. simulating the Town Center clock, one assumes ;-)

We really are sorry to hear that it failed. We wanted to let the list-serve
know of the excellent service Rob provided us. Back on July 4, we had that
terrible storm blow through, the transformer and our street light was brought
down by a large tree. It's been out for months now, with Pepco no where in
sight. Needless to say, it's was dark.

On Monday, Dec. 4, our car and our neighbor's car were broken into. The
dark area made them easier targets. We were lucky, the neighbor not so. We
called the police naturally and filed a report. We also called Rob and told
him of our plight. He paid us a surprise visit that same night. He gave us
contact numbers at Pepco and wished us well and warned that it might take
awhile. He also said he'd try calling to see what he could do.

When I came home from work today, it was to a bright light! The street
light was installed and works great. Rob worked a miracle that we couldn't. We
are sure he pulled a few strings. Without his involvement, this problem
would still be a problem.

Our council representatives work hard for us. The issue of a pay raise or a
stipend increase should be readdressed, especially since one member was out
sick and didn't vote. We appreciate that our reps have volunteered for these
positions and are thankful that Rob has embraced his job to the fullest.
