Yes the Calvert House is reopening! This is great news indeed.
The Calvert House Inn is over 40 years old, and the
Salimi's have owned it for about 25 years.
Fine seafood. Elegant dining. Hard to find, but we have it right here in our
own neighborhood in the Calvert House Inn.
Today (Sunday 3/19/06) I talked with Fereydoun Salimi, owner of the Calver House Inn.
He is now the sole owner, as he bought out his partner Fariborz Samimi..
A reopening banner should go up in the next day or two.
He hopes to reopen by Thursday.
So, as Bruce suggested, lets all have dinner there. Say about 6:30 pm Thursday?
Or whenever you can make it.
He is renovating and hopes to be done by Wednesday or Thursday, but we
will need to check to be sure. We will keep TownTalk posted.
He is completely redoing the kitchen, and sprucing up the rest of the
place a bit now and hopes to do more later. He has architectural
drawings to fix up the outside and will be seeking a small business
loan for this as it will be quite expensive.
He is not selling the building.
We all want to see businesses like this in Town Center.
What can you do to help make it happen?
Give your patronage to the businesses we have: The Calvert House Inn,
S&Js, Dumm's Corner market and sub shop. Alamo. And others. If we can
make these businesses a smashing success, then other businesses will want in.
Please make it a habit to think of our local restaurants first.
And visit them often.
The Calvert House Inn can use some help from the town too.
Mr Salimi asked me for 3 things today:
1) A curb cut so his customers do not have to jump the curb to park.
2) Open West Beale Circle so additional traffic will pass by the real
entrance and the parking area.
3) A letter of commendation from the town that he can show the bank to show
that he has the support of the town and the community, to help make the
loan go smoothly.
And, of course, some help letting everyone know that the Calvert House is back!
