Be that hero you've always dreamed of being! No cape required!
I am in touch with Lois Jones who is the director of Help by Phone, a non-profit serving a variety of needs in gorgeous Prince Georges.
She is collecting new and used winter coats for kids in title 1 schools. She is needing coats for Riverdale Elementary! A huge majority of kids in Riverdale Elementary live below the poverty level.
I've agreed to collect coats at my house, 4811 Oglethorpe St.
If you have any new or used kid's winter wear that you would like to donate, please bring it by my house between today and Thursday, November 9.
If it is used, please be sure that it is in good shape and clean. No missing buttons, broken zippers or tears, please. Thanks.
My phone is 301-927-8056. If I'm not home you may drop it off at the door. Feel free to call if you have questions.
Many thanks to a caring community! Isn't it great to know that we can help make this school a wonderful place for kids? Any school supplies can be donated as well - paper, crayons, pencils.

Audrey used to run the pet halloween costume "contest" at the bookstore,
so, in essence it already is an annual event. :)

It was a great success and the kids, adults, and dogs loved it. You make Riverdale a special place through your efforts.

First, thanks to Bruce for your thorough explanation and your Thank You to
Audrey. I did not realize it was Audrey whose brilliant idea and marketing
efforts created this great event! I had a meeting conflict, but I did
observe for about 5 minutes from my car in the parking lot. All the pets I
saw were really well-dressed! But, I think I only saw dogs. Which dogs
were yours, Bruce? Was the really tall dog (Great Dane???) with the
beautiful spotted-tan markings yours?
Rob, you looked really, really cute in your pumpkin-head hat! That was you,
wasn't it?
Thank you, as always, for all that you do!
Audrey, I hope you will be able to do it again! WONDERFUL IDEA! It was
quite exciting to see the towns' people that were gathered. I should have
gotten out and thanked you folks personally. As I said, I watched from my
car in the parking--- I saw several friendly and familiar faces. After our
meeting, my husband and I rushed home around 3:45pm, but we had missed the
last of the Parade. We saw one last couple strolling with their baby,
looking quite happy. What Joy! You're the Greatest!

I had a great time, too. We have a lot of creative energy in our little
town. Is there a budget for Music at the Town Center on Sunday afternoons in
the fall and spring? Even one Sunday a month with a theme: arts, crafts,
cooking demonstrations, gardening, storytelling, kids' talent show,
harmonica orchestra, spelling bee..........

This is the first Pet Parade I have been too. I was excited to take my dog
Savana and dress her in her pumpkin costume & take her picture. Inspite of
her having to wear a muzzle - just in case - she behaved very well - I was
proud of her. It was nice to be able to show her off with all the other dogs.
Just want to thank Audrey, Simon, Rob, Judy & everybody else involved for
all the work you did to make this such a wonderful fun day. I enjoyed it. It
is nice to see the people in the town come out, take a few hrs and just have
fun doing what you like.
Maybe one day we could have a cat, ferrate, & other pets day. That might be
fun too.
