[RP TownTalk] train cafe, etc

Ok, ok, I've read all the e-mails about why we can't
or shouldn't have a train cafe. However that may be,
at least I'm glad to see that some others besides
myself think local businesses are the way to go. I'd
hate to see the town become another cookie cutter
"Starbucks and Trader Joe" suburb. I know that's
where the money might be, however! Take Silver
Spring, for instance; there's been a lot of growth
there in the past few years, lots of new businesses.
While there are a few exceptions, there's not a whole
lot that is uniquely Silver Spring; in other words,
I'm not going to make a special trip to Silver Spring
just to go to a store or restaurant I can find in 20
other locations. I used to go there a lot, as there
were lots of smaller Mom and Pop stores, ethnic
markets, etc., but not anymore. I have nothing against
chains, and maybe many people actually prefer to have
the same stores everywhere they go, but our town is so
unique, such a "neighborhood," I'd hate to see that
change. (as long as we're talking unrealistic dreams,
I'd also LOVE to see something done with the old
Riverdale Plaza Theatre)
