 I bet that their co-op fees are the same as "condo fees" in subdivisions,
paying for amenities as well as trash pickup, snow shoveling, landscaping in
public areas, parades, that sort of thing.

Greenbelt has a Co-op with a significant monthly membership fee -- something
like almost $300 -- that defrays the cost of operating such amenities.  THe
co-op does a lot more than just run the pool and gym, but still, I just
wanted to point out the 'flip side' of the equation.
