[RP TownTalk] Gazette Election Bios

Hello! I can definitely speak to the questions about the Gazette not interviewing/posting profiles for all candidates running for election in Riverdale Park or any other municipality - I wrote them!

The decision was made to limit our coverage this year to contested candidates only. While that did limit the ability for residents to get to know new candidates (and limited me on that too!), it was the only way to keep the # of profiles under control. Last week I got 20 profiles (not all of them ran). I have 7 municipalities with elections this May 7 and one of them had 7 contested candidates alone! Unfortunately, it would be about impossible for me to get all that done -- and also the paper would have had nothing else in it for about 3 weeks.

I apologize to those who I haven't gotten to speak with yet. I enjoy hearing you at council meetings and look forward to working with whoever is elected in a couple weeks.

Thank you for keeping me in-line!

Sarah

I wander what happened to Wards 2 & 4? Unopposed but I would have liked
to hear what they have to say.

	Dear Ms. Lefkowitz,

Thank you for posting the links to all candidates Q&As on the Gazette
site. The link in your post is extremely useful.

I do not, and will not, modify posts. I sometimes must ask that
authors modify posts themselves to comply with list policy before I
can approve them. The post to which you refer complied with previosly
posted policy (see the next-to-last paragraph in
	http://riverdale-park.org/pipermail/towntalk/2007-March/001473.html),
which has been used to approve other posts that might be considered
electioneering. I discussed the issue of links in otherwise
non-electioneering posts with the town council, and the fact that I
did not consider it electioneering, during discussion of one or
another of the many proposals for establishing policy. The town
council did not give direct feedback on this issue, but they did
authorize me to decide what was and was not electioneering, which I
considered an implicit endorsement of my position, or at least
acceptance of it. Thus, in my opinion, I had no basis in policy on
which to reject the post or request that it be changed. While I might
have preferred your link, I could not insist on it.

Again, thank you for posting your link.

	Regards,
