Wow Bruce - that's kind of scary. I had no idea.

A couple of thoughts.

(1) We all do what we can, and every bit helps. And the events Jonah
mentioned raise awareness, which is a good first step toward
addressing problems.

(2) Many of the things you write about can be attributed to homelessness:

> Branch (toilet paper, etc. all over this time of year) next to the
> large park north of E/W highway, or the homeless bathing/clothes
> washing areas (loaded with trash) along the Northeast Branch
> just south of Riverdale Rd.

So it seems to me that one good way to address some of the
litter/public health problems you point out would be to address the
issue of homelessness. I never thought those were related topics, but
here's the evidence!

And while that's a tough issue, it's one we need to face as a society.
And I personally think the solutions are incredibly complicated, to be
addressed at federal, state, local, and personal levels.

So where do you think we should start?
