I would encourage any interested residents to stop by the Solar Decathlon, now set up on the Mall between 10th and 14th streets. 20 colleges and universities have designed houses that operate solely on power from the sun. This is a good opportunity to see some Green building technology in place, the sort of distributors Kennedy Smith advised the town to encourage to locate in Town Center. Also, one of the criteria of this year's competition is marketability, so a few schools have developed pre-packaged mechanical systems. The hope is that a consumer can select the right size package for their home, have it delivered, and have it power a home of their own design. It might be a good idea to see how committed the Cafritz team is not only to green building technology, but alternative power sources as well. More info on line at www.solardecathlon.org.
