The final countdown is on to the 1st Annual Riverdale Park Arts
Festival - Festival de las Artes, Sunday May 4th ~ Domingo 4 de Mayo,
11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The ArtsFest will be held where the Farmers Market takes place each
Thursday (May 1 - Oct 30), at Riverdale Park Town Center, 4650
Queensbury Rd @ MARC Train Station (for directions see
http://RPArtsCouncil.org )

We think we've got a fantastic array of artists, musicians, and
hands-on activities to keep you and your entire family engaged and
entertained for the whole day.

Look at this lineup of musical artists (schedule and more details below):
The musical day begins with two of Riverdale Park's own renowned artists,
singer-songwriter Marianna Previti and Miles Spicer, who joins with
two Virginians in their band, MSG The Acoustic Blues Trio.

They are followed by:
BanjerDan
Free Abune the Bray (Celtic vocal choir)
Michel Baytop & Rick Franklin (Piedmont Blues)

And then there are the artist exhibits and sales, and a variety of
free children's workshops!

We now have over 40 artists - all of them will be showing & selling
their work - and some will also be demonstrating their art (see
website for details)

Oil painting - Acrylic painting - Water color - Sculpture -
Woodcarving - Blown glass - Drawing - Photography - Printmaking - Fine
crafts - Book reading - (by author)

Children's hands-on/take-home activities
Drawing lesson for all (one time only - see schedule, below)

The same day it's Children's Day at the Riversdale House Museum
just up the street ($2 per adult or child).

Free shuttle bus service between ArtsFest and Children's Day and nearby parking

Marianna Previti (12 noon)
Singer-Songwriter, and outstanding vocalist with area bands the
Smokin' Polecats and the J Street Jumpers

Riverdale Park's own Miles Spicer's
MSG The Acoustic Blues Trio (1:15 pm)
They've taken their traditional Piedmont Blues to the Kennedy Center's
Millenium Stage and had their CD nominated for album of the year and
aired on XM Radio's "Bluesville" channel

BanjerDan (2:30 pm)
Banjer Dan has taken his banjo to music festivals and stages all over
the country, as well as in theaters and on television

Free Abune the Bray (3:45 pm)
Free Abune the Brae hail from Baltimore, having originally come
together through the Goucher College Pyrate Club; their repertoire
extends from traditional sea-shanties to beautiful, traditional
"landlubber" tunes including Irish/Scottish folk songs. While
primarily a vocal ensemble, with upwards of 8 people singing, they are
accompanied by guitar, Bodhran (celtic frame drum), penny whistle,
flute, and autoharp.

Michel Baytop & Rick Franklin (4:30 pm)
Still more, great Piedmont Blues; Baytop & Franklin have performed at
Strathmore and all over the region, and their CD "Searching for Frank"
was rated by NPR as one of the top blues albums of 2007
