They haven’t stopped. I emailed public works and they are making the rounds they told me.

While we are on the subject, I've had piles of leaves in front of my house (4606 Queensbury) for over 3 weeks. They are not really piles anymore. They've been there so long they have shrunk do to the rains. I've also noticed piles of leaves in front of other homes around the neighborhood. The Town vacuumed up my first set of leaf piles, but not these. Can anyone tell me if the Town has stopped vacuuming up the leaves?

Given that we've covered a number of topics related to trash and negligence, I thought I'd relate a recent tale where something was done well and quickly:

About a week-and-a-half ago, we were headed toward the beltway and left town via Lafayette Rd. to Rivertech Rd. We frequently drive through the parking lot of the old, vacant NOA building. I noticed a couch had been dumped along the grassy border of the parking lot. Made a mental note to tell somebody about it, then there was Christmas and I forgot. I noticed it again last weekend, then on Monday, I noticed a second couch (this one almost in the middle of the parking lot with its foldout metal bed frame unfolded). Got home, e-mailed my council rep (Kate Sharpe) about who I should contact. She replied (in less than 24 hours on New Year's Day no less) that Code Enforcement was the correct route to take and that she too would contact them. I contacted them about 10:30am Wednesday morning and the woman on the phone (whose name I failed to record) said she would call University of Maryland (who I presume are responsible for upkeep of the property) and she encouraged me to call again if and when I see anything else. Wednesday evening, by 6pm, the couches were gone. I don't know if that was pure coincidence (though I highly doubt it given that the first couch probably sat there for at least 2 weeks), but everyone I dealt with in Riverdale Park was extremely quick and helpful.

That's the type of thing that makes me proud to live in Riverdale Park.

Happy New Year to all,
Marc
