All,
One step that you can take now, even if you can't attend the hearing, is to
write a letter that expresses your opposition. The more community letters
that pile up in their office, the better.
Here is who to write to:
Board of License Commissioners
6200 Baltimore Avenue, 3rd Floor
Riverdale Park, MD 20737
If you can email or mail copies of your letter to the Town of Riverdale Park
and to County Councilman Olson, that would be helpful.
Here's sample text if you want to use it in your letter:
Dear Commissioners:
I am writing to oppose Jin Lee Enterprises application to open a liquor
store on Kenilworth Avenue in the Town of Riverdale Park. I oppose the
liquor store for several reasons.
First, the neighborhood is already amply served by the existing liquor
stores in the area. There is a liquor store within 900 feet of the proposed
location, and another within 1350 feet. The public is already being
adequately served.
Second, the proposed liquor store would be opened within 1100 feet of the
school at St. Bernard's Church. I do not think we should allow a new store
to open so close to a school.
Third, there is a pawn shop just down the block at 5610 Kenilworth, and
there are already several other liquor stores in the area that have served
as attractants to criminal behavior. Our community is challenged by blight,
vagrancy, and public drinking along the Kenilworth corridor. I believe
another liquor store will add to this problem, not help solve it.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
