Isn't the proposed bill about allowing people to mail order wine?

Of course your experience with grocery store wine may affect whether you
think this is a good idea. I am "sure" the least common denominator wine
that Giant may select will be just fine for some. But here are some
other points to consider:

1. If Giant and other "grocery" stores capture the sales of common wines
and beers will there be enough business left to enable stores that offer
a wider variety to stay in business? Not to sound like a snob (COC/snob
now there is a oxymoron!) but the last time I saw wine in a grocery
store it was things like Thunderbird and Ripple, because that's what
sold - the old volume/shelf space issue. I had to drive to the next
town to fined something to satisfy the taste for wine I acquired in
Europe. The local liquor store didn't bother to sell wine because it
didn't sell. They just had liquor and beer, things that the grocery
store couldn't. I'm sure in California, with the size of the local wine
industry, you could find something besides wine-by-the-box next to the
oranges. I'm not sure about here.

2. "We" just spent time, bandwidth and effort to stop "an other" liquor
store from opening on Kenilworth. How are you going to feel about
stopping the new ethnic grocery store from selling beer and wine? When
they opened we were all full of "cheer." When they ask for a license and
claim they need it to compete, will we say 'No we don't need an other
place to buy alcohol along Kenilworth.' Will it be OK to add wine to
the shelves of 7-11? Don't I remember efforts to demonstrate there
already?

I think there may be an issue of focus here. COC
