Dear friends and neighbors,

I want to alert you to the fact that a particularly nasty rape took place
last night on the 5500 block of Kenilworth Avenue last night. We
unfortunately don't have a lot to go on at this point and I am sending this
information out in the dual hope that we might get a lead for the police and
also to caution everyone that this person is still out there. The text of
the press release is as follows:

*Police Urge Caution after Sexual Assault on Kenilworth Avenue *

* *

Prince George's County, Maryland…The Prince George's County Police
Department and the Riverdale Park Police Department is urging women in the
Riverdale area to take extra precautions after a woman reported that she was
sexually assaulted yesterday on Kenilworth Avenue. Details of the incident
are as follows:

On March 27, 2008, at approximately 10:00 p.m., the victim was walking
toward the bus stop in the 5500 block of Kenilworth Avenue when she was
approached by the suspect. The suspect, armed with a silver handgun, forced
her inside a dumpster, and sexually assaulted her. After the assault, the
suspect fled the scene on foot. The victim immediately called police.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his twenties,
approximately 5'1 to 5'5, 150 pounds, with a light complexion and faded hair
cut (skin on sides of the head and hair on top). At the time of the
incident he was wearing a green and gray long sleeved shirt, blue jeans and
white sneakers.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Prince George's
County Police Department's Sexual Assault Unit at (301) 772-4908. Callers
wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
A cash reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for the tip that leads to
the arrest and indictment of the suspect. The investigation is continuing.

_______________________________________________________________________

This is a first degree rape and therefore the lead on this is Prince
George's County Police, but our police will be working closely with them.
You certainly can call our police directly at 301-927-4343 if you have
information about this or any other crime.

Also, I authorized not only our police but town staff volunteers, who I
joined to flier along Kenilworth Avenue and immediately surrounding areas to
warn residents and ask for leads. Both business and residents were also
helpful in getting the word out.

Best wishes, and be careful out there,

Vern
