I have to agree with "cranky old coot" on this one. Unless we know all of the facts, we shouldn't condemn the police. I'm an animal lover and I wouldn't have wanted to see the dog shot, either (hey, I won't even watch the movie "Old Yeller"); however, I realize sometimes that is what the police have to do, life is not always pretty. I'm sure many police officers own dogs themselves. Perhaps someone w/ the town could advise, was the dog sent for rabies testing? And could we hear the results of the tests? Rabies is a VERY serious problem and if this dog indeed did have rabies, everyone who had contact with it needs to see their doctor. Even if it didn't have rabies, biting dogs are dangerous, even the littler dogs. And while they're working an incident, the last thing that the police or any emergency services workers need is people asking questions and getting in the way; they're trying to do their job and protect the public. I'm sorry that a dog
had to be killed, but I also know if a dog had come after me, a child, or my pet, I'd do whatever I could to protect against it biting again.
