[RP TownTalk] Checking whether messages have gone out (was Re: Where is MY question?)

It is fairly common for me to get questions about why postings haven't
gone out. Occasionally they REALLY didn't go out (for instance, there
was a post a few months ago that was legitimate, but was tagged as
"spam" by so many of the filters that my mail goes through that I
didn't catch it). Usually, they have gone out, and the copy of the
post that went back to the person who sent it disappeared somewhere
(perhaps due to the poster's "spam" filters, or some sort of automatic
filing in their e-mail client).

If you want to check whether a message has gone out, the best way to
do it is to visit the archives. Anything that was sent out ends up in
the archives, and anything in the archives was sent out (as with
everything, there are bizarre situations that can cause this to not be
true, but I hope that people will contact me if one of those
situations is going on, and I don't care what you say to me ;-) ).

The archives are available at
http://riverdale-park.org/pipermail/towntalk/ (you have to drill down
a little bit, so the current month's archives are linked from there,
at http://riverdale-park.org/pipermail/towntalk/2008-November/date.html
; it should be fairly obvious how to get to the current archives from
the first link).

People should also feel free to contact me at the list admin address
if they have any concerns or questions, rather than posting to the
entire list. That address is towntalk-owner at riverdale-park.org
(preferred, as there are a few people who get those messages), or
listmaster at ci.riverdale-park.md.us. I try to check that mail at least
a few times a day, though I do have a full-time job that gets in the
way at times.
