Hi, sorry if this is inappropriate to send, but I am a former Riverdale resident and work for the UN's DC office.  I know school is out this Friday, but thought some of you might be interested in participating in this campaign at some of your neighborhood events this weekend.

Thanks.
Karen

The United Nations Office in Washington DC wants to alert you to the CHANCE to make a difference in the fight against global poverty.

	* The CHANCE to stand up for an issue that matters in the US and around the world.

	* The CHANCE to join others across the planet (and enter the Guinness book of world records!).

We hope you and your organization will consider using this opportunity to “Stand Up” on behalf of a cause that is at the root of addressing so many priorities – from the conflict in Darfur , to child mortality, to trafficking in persons, to the fight against HIV/AIDS.

You are invited to
Stand up and Speak out
against Poverty and Inequality!

From 17-19 October, millions of people from around the world will participate in a global advocacy event to set an official Guinness World Record –

the greatest number of people ever to STAND UP against Poverty and for the Millennium Development Goals.

More than 43.7 million people worldwide participated last
year in the largest single coordinated mobilization in history,
according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

STAND UP relies fully on citizen participation in that individuals everywhere organize local events around the world.

Participants “stand up” to communicate their desire to fight poverty and hold governments and leaders accountable for promises to end poverty by 2015.

For more information and materials from the Millennium Campaign, please visit http://www.standagainstpoverty.org/

Get a group of people, come up with your own creative idea for an event, and get ready to Stand Up and Speak Out!

	1. Start planning your event and register on the Stand Up website.
	2. Get your friends involved – Spread the word!
	3. Get a photo of your group for official counting purposes and report back to Stand Up.
	4. Stay tuned to the United Nations’ efforts to eradicate poverty through the Millennium Development Goals!
