her book. You can combine it with Valentine's Day shopping--and we
gift wrap.

The Breakthrough:
Politics and Race in the Age of Obama
Saturday, February 14 1:30 pm
Veteran journalist Gwen Ifill surveys the American political landscape
in The Breakthrough, examining the impact of Barack Obama's victory
and introducing the emerging young African American politicians
forging a new path to political power.
Ifill contends that the black political structure formed during the
Civil Rights movement is giving way to a generation who are the direct
beneficiaries of the struggles of the 1960s. She offers incisive,
detailed profiles of leaders such as Mayor Cory Booker (Newark, NJ),
Gov. Deval Patrick (MA) and U.S. Cong. Artur Davis (AL) and
up-and-coming figures from across the nation. Drawing on exclusive
interviews with President Obama and key power brokers, Ifill offers
her own razor-sharp observations and analysis of such issues as
generational conflict, the race/gender clash and the "black enough"
conundrum. Ifill is moderator and managing editor of Washington Week
and senior correspondent of The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.
All are welcome to attend our readings but if you wish to have a book
signed, it must be purchased at Vertigo Books, rather than at a
competitor.
