PG County Schools is doing a boundary survey to determine which
schools to close and how to distribute services. An earlier version of
the survey had problems with the second page, and some people were
unable to submit their surveys.

The survey is now working correctly. On the second page, you should
be able to see a county level map. You can use this map to view
elementary, middle or high school boundaries. Use the buttons on the
top left to select which type of schools you are interested in
viewing. Then use the other buttons on the top right to recenter,
zoom in or zoom out.
Once you see the school map you are interested in and zoom to a close
up level, you can see grid blocks. If you want to make a suggestion
on redistricting, you use these grid blocks to describe the changes.

The survey is very revealing. It seems to play "special programs" off
against the use of "temporary structures". If you have children in the
public schools, or an opinion about classroom space as allocated in a
Real Building versus a temporary structure, fill out the survey. Keep
in mind that limiting the number of students to the capacity of the
school will not change the number of children in each class. The
staffing formula is completely independent from the rated capacity of
the building.

This survey is apparently tied to a planned announcement of several
school closings. The announcement will be made in February.

Please take some time to visit the survey site and submit your
opinions on this important topic. The deadline to submit the survey
has officially passed, but appears to have been extended for an
unknown amount of time due to the previous technical problems.
