Now that yard sale season is upon us, here’s a few hints regarding those signs which will be blooming around the town;
1) Whether you’re holding your sale here in town or elsewhere, be sure to check any local regulations as to posting signs in public places.
2) Make sure your signs are big enough and the writing can be seen from a reasonable distance. If someone has to walk right up to a piece of notebook paper with writing in pencil to read it, you can bet that cars passing by won’t be able to see your sign at all.
3) Make your signs as waterproof as possible. That way, if it rains between the time the sign is posted and the time it’s taken down, people will not see a blob of rain-soaked paper with illegible writing.
4) Put the time, date, and location of the sale on the sign. Don’t just put “today” or “tomorrow,” with an arrow pointing down the street.
5) Be respectful of where you hang the signs; don’t cover up someone else’s signs and ask permission before posting signs on someone’s walls or fences.
6) As soon as possible after the sale ends, take all of your signs down, along with any string, tape, staples, etc., you used to post them, and dispose of these materials properly.
