Hi everyone!

We are all planning on being busy little bees at Riversdale this
September and there is certainly an event for everyone! The Stier
family, Riversdale's founders, were from Antwerp and, this month, our
programs center on celebrating their Flemish heritage. Take a peek at
what we've got planned!

Belgian Brews & Beverages, Friday, September 10, 6pm - If you love our
Tavern Night or if Franklin's in Hyattsville is one of your favorite
hangouts, you'll love this! Mike Roy, brew master at Franklin's, for a
question-and-answer session and samplings of his and other brews,
including the limited edition release of Rosalie. Inspired by Rosalie
Stier Calvert, the mistress of Riversdale, this is a mysterious beer
brewed with fruits and botanicals harvested from Riversdale's own
interpretive gardens! What could be better than some local brews paired
with local history? 21 & up. $20 for residents of Prince George's &
Montgomery Counties; $24 non-residents. This program will sell out!
Registration required by Wednesday, September 8, but I'd encourage you
to sign up earlier to ensure a spot!

Karen Ashbrook & Paul Oorts in Concert, Sunday, September 19, 5:30pm -
Enjoy an evening concert featuring music from and about the Napoleonic
era. Flemish-born Oorts and his wife present a program on hammered
dulcimer, hommel, accordion, and wooden flute. Belgian-inspired
refreshments available before the concert. $15.

Maman, Papa, et Moi, Friday, September 24, 6:30pm - Beer and old world
music certainly aren't up kids' alleys, but this program certainly is!
The 9 Calvert children who grew up at Riversdale would certainly have
been exposed to stories and pastimes from their mother's heritage. Bring
your child, ages 4-7, in their PJs to enjoy Flemish crafts, stories, and
activities in the historic house. $6 child & 1 adult for residents; $8
child & 1 adult for non-residents.

Let's not forget about those FREE cooking demos, either! Stop by between
noon-3:30 to see what's cookin in the kitchen! Sunday, September 12
features some yummy squash recipes and Sunday, September 19 is all about
Simple Simon & his Pie.

Email me at Samantha.Ferris at pgparks.com or call 301.864.0420 to register
for these and other programs. I hope to see you soon!

Cheers,
Samantha
