In case you've been busy, consider this your fair warning that Mother's
Day is right around the corner this Sunday, May 9! Cards and flowers are
certainly classics for a reason and almost every mom would be happy to
receive any or all of them on Mother's Day. If you're looking for a
special way to continue the day after a yummy breakfast in bed or brunch
outing, look no further than Riversdale House Museum!

Guests will receive a FREE ticket for every regular priced ticket ($3
adults, $2 seniors, $1 students 5-18) they purchase. Share this with a
mom, grandmother, or other special lady in your life. Visitors will be
able to tour the historic house and learn about Rosalie Stier Calvert,
who was not only the Mistress of Riversdale, but the MOM of Riversdale.
She did, after all, have NINE children!

The Riversdale Kitchen Guild will also be on hand for a Seasonal
Selections demonstration. Using period receipts and equipment, they will
be celebrating spring while preparing paper pancakes, asparagus, and
more!

Tours begin in the Visitor Center and go out on the quarter hours (the
:15s and :45s) between 12:15 and 3:15pm. I hope to see you!

Other events!

Tuesday, May 18, 7:30pm - For all the history buffs out there, this
lecture's for you! Riversdale, in addition to dozens of other sites

celebration of the War of 1812. Don Shomette, underwater archaeologist
and author of the recently published Flotilla and other books, will
present his talk, New Perspectives on the Battle of Bladensburg. It was
this battle that Rosalie Stier Calvert wrote of seeing cannon fire (or
as you'll find out, Congreve rockets!) from her chamber. $5/students
$2.50

Sunday, May 23, noon-4pm - The Kitchen Guild will be having a second
Seasonal Selections this month. From noon-4pm, watch as members churn
butter, distill herbal infusions and more!

Saturday, June 5 10am-4pm & Sunday, June 6 noon-4pm - Kids, ready your
swords and adults, prepare to step back in time. Riversdale is excited
about a completely new program called Rome at Riversdale! Celebrate
ancient Rome as you watch ancient battle reenactments with Legio XX,
view a catapult demonstration, take part in children's activities, enjoy
refreshments at the Roman capona, chat with reenactors, and more all on
the grounds of Riversdale House Museum! Inside the historic house,
celebrate the neoclassical trends of the 19th century with an
architecture scavenger hunt, a show of popular fashions of the time, and
more!! $5 adults & $3 students - admission includes ALL activities on
the grounds!
