No, Metro isn’t light rail. Light rail can run with pedestrians and traffic like a trolley. It isn’t fast or noisy.

Apparently many of you have not listened to the Red Line as it passes Lake Artemesia. It's quite loud (sqealing wheels, staccato from the wheels going over the welds in the tracks, horn when the train approaches a tunnel or station) and you often get fireworks when the electrical power contacts frequently make and break connnection with the third rail. So not only do you get the noise, you get the high intensity flashes of light 24/7.

Don't believe me? Take a walk around Lake Artemesia rather than relying on a web link to provide you with information.

P.S. Metro is light rail.

Bruce

Here is a link to a “you tube” video of light rail (with sound) here: http://rethinkcollegepark.net/blog/2007/515/ .
I was against the purple line at first. I am in West Lanham Hills and the purple line goes next to our neighborhood. Our civic association looked into the purple line extensively with lots of help from Danielle Glaros and County Councilman Eric Olson.
B.T.W. My name is Ed Dabolt, I’m not in Riverdale but I am a close neighbor from West Lanham Hills. I am 2 blocks from the New Carrolton Metro so this was a big issue for us.

Hello to you to, although I don't know who you are. I thought the purple line would be just like the red line, blue line, orange line...with the same sound. Am I wrong?. I would not be able to hear it in person if I went to a web site, so if you will tell me where in Baltimore I can view this type of train, I will take a trip and go there and see. It just seems to me that when they put above ground rails in, it is usually near industrial sites or similar sites, this one is going right through our neighborhood, just like years ago with the East West Highway. I think we need to give it a lot more thought before we make another mistake. Are you saying this is not a "Metro or other train" and not fast and loud?

Hello,
The purple line isn’t loud at all. Metro or other trains are fast and loud. The light rail that the purple line would be is very quiet. It would be the same as the light rail in Baltimore. Here is a link to find out more you can go to: http://www.purplelinemd.com/about-the-project/purple-line-facts
