Thanks for sharing, Olivia. I note that according to Viridian's website,
100% wind-sourced power from Viridian costs a typical residential customer
$0.109/kwh variable. So - it could actually go higher or lower, but 10.9
cents/kwh is what one might expect to pay on average based on historical
performance.

In comparison, Pepco's current supply rates (also variable, but sourced from
coal, gas, nuclear, among others) are set to run $0.11842/kwh during the
summer months (on average) and $0.09885/kwh during the winter months (also,
on average). When you average out the two rates (summer & winter), you get
$0.105373/kwh.

The fact is that both of these supply rates are variable, so who knows what
the customer will get in the end? Nobody! Regardless of how they actually
perform in the end though, I don't see a 19% savings in this hypothetical
switch. Am I missing something, Olivia?

A short while back I posted some info on my own experience switching to wind
power. I did a lot of research and opted to switch from Pepco to
CleanCurrents for my energy supply (http://www.cleancurrents.com). They
offer a fixed rate of $0.098/kwh for 100% wind. Their price is FIXED, so you
know exactly what you'll pay per month for the next year.

Let's put these rates side-by-side:

-Viridian $0.109/kwh variable

-Pepco $0.105373/kwh variable

-CleanCurrents $0.098/kwh fixed

The only other thing I can think to suggest is that folks may want to sign
up for just 1 year, since the trend has been a decreasing cost for supply.
We can all give thanks to good old competition for those monthly savings!
Thus far the switch to Clean Currents has saved my household $10/month. Just
thought folks might like to know that options do exist.

My best,

Zach Feris
