*RIVERDALE PARK, MD., April 1, 2011* -- The fourth annual ArtsFest in
Riverdale Park is set for Sunday, May 1 at Town Center and will feature
dozens of artists and craftsmen, along with a slew of the area’s top musical
acts including Wayne Brown and 2nd Conspiracy and La Tradicion Grupo.

Among the top artists expected to participate in the
free, day-long show are Town residents renowned realism painter Gerald King,
popular jewelry craftsman Tina Van Pelt and award-winning waterfowl
woodcarver Robert Kraft.

In addition to showcasing some of the area’s finest
artists, the festival, produced by the Riverdale Park Arts Council, with
feature Wayne Brown & 2nd Conspiracy, a popular Good Times Rock ‘n’ Roll
band that has performed at major venues in the Middle Atlantic for more than
two decades. The performance by Brown, a longtime Riverdale Park resident,
is a homecoming of sorts as his group makes its Riverdale Park debut.

Also in the line up is Brûlée, a Jazz-Infused,
Americana-Marinated Alt-Pop four-piece group that includes upright bass
player Andrew Brown, also a Riverdale Park resident. Another town favorite
set to push the program into full tilt is La Tradicion Grupo, led by Eduardo
Sanchez. The a six-member troop has built a legion of followers enthralled
by the band’s authentic and upbeat regional Mexican rhythm. Members of the
Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation will be there to keep Piedmont
Blues and down-home musical story-telling alive with performances and
workshops. Local theater group, Active Cultures, is also set to perform
Sunday afternoon, with preview performances also scheduled at the Douglas
Development Building on Queensbury Road Friday and Saturday evenings.

Riverdale Park’s very own Elephant Art Gallery at
Town Center, which supports the Thai Elephant Conservation Center in
Thailand’s Lampang Province (http://www.changthai.com/), will be open to
visitors while Dr. Delvin Fanning, emeritus professor of the University of
Maryland’s Soil Science Department -- better known as “the Dean of Dirt” --
will present his popular soil exhibition and talk – which always generates a
crowd of young and old excited to learn what’s beneath their feet. In all,
ArtsFest2011, which runs 11 am to 6 pm, offers more seven hours of free,
family-oriented musical and performance entertainment.

ArtsFest2011 is made possible by generous contributions from the Anacostia
Trails Heritage Area (ATHA), Riverdale Lion’s Club, and the Town of
Riverdale Park.
