*RIVERDALE PARK, MD., April 30, 2011* – “If I am not around clay, I get a
little crazy,” says Diana Little to a man looking at her expansive selection
of asparagus serving plates, candy bowls and soup cups, some embedded with a
quirky crab of her design. With a sly grin, the potter adds, “err, a little
crazier.”
Little’s sense of humor is apparent in her work. The owner-operator of “A
Little Pottery” in Hyattsville, Md. produces a wide array of microwave safe,
dishwasher safe goods that make great additions to daily cookware
collections or a prized Mother’s Day gift. Little is one of more than two
dozen artists, artisans and craftspeople participating in *ArtsFest2011* in
Riverdale Park’s Town Center on Sunday, May 1. Others include a master
weaver from Guatemala, Sabina Ramirez; blind artist Lawrence Harrison;
instrument maker Andrew Brown; photographer Sandy Thunker; Hyattsville
artist Selene Mendez; and Landover-based Joe Rodgers. And a special Kids’
Pavilion will help children create Mother’s Day gifts for free.

The fest includes a day of free music beginning at 11 am with members of the
Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation, traditional Mexican music by *Con
Junto Andaricgo, *the* *jazz-infused, Americana-marinated alt-pop
*Brulee*, Bluesman
*One String Willie, *along with rock ‘n’ roll, R&B hometown favorite*, Wayne
Brown & 2nd Conspiracy, *who takes the stage at 4 pm. WTOP-FM’s (103.5)
David Burd will emcee the day’s proceedings.**
Riverdale Park Arts Council’s fourth-annual free, family-oriented outdoor
arts and music event also features the best of local food and theater
entertainment, much of it an expansion of the renown Riversdale Park
Farmer’s Market which has already generated rave reviews early in its 2011
season.
“This market has much to offer beyond the handful of produce vendors. A
picnic area is a good place to graze on crepes, doughnuts, and pickles, and
shoppers of all ages can enjoy the model trains and the musicians. Gift
seekers will find a jewelry vendor and a potter as well as a flower stall,”
heralds the current issue of Washingtonian Magazine.
This Sunday’s ArtsFest not only features Baltimore’s notoriously delicious
Rueben’s Crêpes – Rueben also offers a well-spiced selection of regional
Mexican delights such as burritos and tacos – but Geppetto Catering will
park its “Old Smoky” slow cooker in Town Center, serving up piles of pulled
pork, barbequed beef, ribs, chicken and homemade Cole slaw. It’s all to
die-for. Hometown hit Dumm’s Pizza & Subs offers its famous super slices,
hot dogs, burgers and ice cream treats while the S&J Restaurant & Bar will
have a large selection of beverages including domestic and imported beers.
Mt. Airy’s Elk Run Winery will sell its locally-made wine by the glass. Soft
ice cream specialist Mister Magic promises to roll up to the scene.
*ArtsFest2011* is made possible by generous contributions from the Anacostia
Trails Heritage Area (ATHA), Riverdale Lion’s Club, the Town of Riverdale
Park and J.D. Williams Real Estate.
