Residents of one local municipality shun pavement projects that promote
pedestrian safety while welcoming another that promises to cull the herd of
neighborhood children. That seems to be the take-away from the current
issue of the *Hyattsville Life & Times*, which devotes its front page to a
story on the pre-opening of the new, death-defying Hyattsville skate park
and another on opposition to the installation of new sidewalks in a
recently annexed neighborhood:

While you're there, check out some off-beat local sports stories, including
a local high school's award in the recent Quidditch World Cup (that's for
you Harry Potter fans) and the results of the first annual Hyattsville
Heroes Bowl (featuring Hyattsville's "finest" -- the city police department
-- vs. its "bravest" -- the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Dept). There's also
a more conventional item about a city high school's recent ranking as the
nation's #1 soccer team.
And there's plenty more in this month's colorful holiday issue, including
notice of the recent publication of "Images of America: Riverdale Park."
