Brave the wintry weather and enjoy some wine, cheese and art at our next lecture
 this Friday, January 28th featuring local artist Bruce McNeil whose stunning  photographs
of the Anacostia are on display here in the AWS office!
Local Riverdale, Md. restaurant The Calvert House Inn will be hosting AWS Day this
coming Monday, January 31st.  Please plan to stop by for lunch, dinner or drinks
 throughout the day and mention AWS and a percentage will be donated to us!  Additional
information on all upcoming events can be found below.

"After taking a free educational tour of Anacostia River given by the Anacostia 
Watershed Society, I was shocked about the abundance of wildlife-egrets, ospreys,
white herons, turtles, fish and indigenous plant species.  It was an amazing eye-opener
to see rare birds catching fish such as the blue herons and fish hawk," said Bruce
McNeil.

"My mission with these unique images of the Anacostia River is to bring attention
to the plight of the river by weaving a fantasy story.  Through some of these images
I want to capture the imagination of the residents of East of the River.  Some of
the images reflect the past when the Native Americans used to live, fish and hunt,
before settlement."

McNeil's probing camera lens explores the beauty and gems in East of the River. 
 He explains his mission, "As a resident of Ward 7 for decades, my longstanding 
goal is to create an on-going dialogue about our diverse treasures.  It is a fact
that Wards 7 and 8 have the most abundance of parklands and wetlands throughout 
the city.  Our treasures are the wealth of green spaces."
