What by the way is a NIMBY? So, I don't shop Trader Joe's because their
eggs don't come from free range chickens. They buy the eggs from people who
keep their chickens in cages not big enough for a rat. Now, speaking of
rats and dense population. I remember doing experiments in Science Class
where we did not have computers by the way, and the rats who lived in crowded
conditions were not happy. That's a fact. So, now we want to put all of
us rats in as close proximity as possible?
Anyway, I am for the development of the Cafritz Property and even changing
the zoning from residential to commercial, providing that the County open
Queens Chapel Road to the public. That will ease the traffic.
Hey, if you don't want to throw your dollars to Montgomery County, go to
the Farmer's Market, Go to Glut, Go to Mom's and then go to the new Yes about
to be open. How much dollars do you have?
Many people now shop on the internet instead of leaving their homes anyway,
so I think we should just do away with all the stores.
Did you know the trees "breathe" oxygen into the air and take up the carbon
dioxide? And since we breathe that oxygen, I think we need them.
I love my little town. I am in a music group with people from Bethesda
and Rockville and they were talking about getting a place to practice. I
told them if they wanted to come to Riverdale, I would just call up my Mayor
or Councilperson and see if they would let us use the public space.
Riverdale location won't work for them, but I found it a breathe of fresh air,
that I could just call my Mayor or Council Rep. These people living in
Rockville and Bethesda don't have that kind of relationship with their reps.
They might have the "shopping" and "the" stores, but they don't have the
personality, the friendliness, the compassion of our little town. I wouldn't
trade it for all the stores in Rockville. Amen.

Here's another aspect of the proposed Cafritz development to think about:
spending our money in our own county! Does anyone else feel awful about
throwing away potentially tax-revenue-generating dollars in neighboring
counties? I love shopping at Trader Joe's, since there are few stores in our
county that offer wide organic/natural foods selections, but I always get this
sick feeling in my stomach that I'm spending money in Montgomery County
that could easily be kept in our own beautiful Prince George's County! I
could understand the outrage if a KMART was being built, but haven't many
articles been written about Prince George's County residents being upset about
having to go out of county to do their shopping? I also think the posters
opposed to this development sound an awful lot like NIMBY-ers masking
their true opinions as a love for parks and green space.
