I encourage everyone in the community to attend tomorrow night's Gang Information Meeting at the Hyattsville Municipal Building (details follow). I attended Saturday's meeting and found it to be time well spent. It should be noted that these meetings are not in response to any single event, and, really, this meeting is about more than just gangs. We're just fortunate enough to have Cpl. Rudinski who seems determined to fight for our childrens' safety. Part of this fight involves preventing communities and their politicians from, as they say, burying their heads in the sand. According to Cpl. Rudinski, gangs are a fact not just in Hyattsville or Prince George's County but everywhere. This meeting will help you understand the issues and it'll help start a conversation on what can be done to end gang activity, protect our children, and improve our schools...which will improve our communities...which will improve our quality of life....
This is also an opportunity to learn about legislation that stands in the way of safer and more productive schools.
Frankly, the legislation (e.g., parts of No Child Left Behind) and politicians that stand in the way of safer and higher quality schools are nearly as frightening as the gangs.
This meeting is for everyone (except children), whether you have a child or not.

What communities can do to end gang activity

How gang activity enters a community

The prevention of gang activity (violence, bullying, etc.) requires more than police intervention. It requires community, school, and parent involvement. Please consider attending one of these two informational meetings.

Meetings will held at the City of Hyattsville Municipal Building located at 4310 Gallatin Street, Hyattsville, MD 20781
For more information, please call 240-286-6047.
