Inner-beltway Prince George's County commerce seems to be returning to
its roots these days -- or Route, to be specific -- as customers
throng the burgeoning Shoppes at Arts District Hyattsville and
residents hotly debate Whole Foods' potential impact on the Route 1
communities.

This month, the Hyattsville Life & Times examines the controversy over
the Cafritz property redevelopment while detailing the impending new
openings in the Arts District.

Meanwhile, two massive commercial projects around the Prince George's
Plaza Metro Station have fallen to foreclosure in recent months, and
the Life & Times tells which and why.

Also in the September issue:

•  With Route 1 shopping experiencing a renaissance, a 100-year-old
local resident recounts the days when wives shopped on foot for
groceries there and left them in labeled bags at the store for
husbands to pick up on the way home;

• "Whole foods" are also celebrated with a pictorial look back at the
first season of the Hyattsville Community Garden;

• Why some of Hyattsville's finest were recently spotted atop rather
than inside a local doughnut shop;

•  Earthquake/hurricane after-math;
