Funny you bring this up. I recently was reading a newspaper from 1939, researching the history of the town of Riverdale Park's WPA built community center building (the one the town recently sold to park and planning) 
And came across an article about a proposed shuttle bus taking  residents from  Riverdale  to shopping in Hyattsville.

   Even though I don't drive, I've been reading the posts about problems parking at the Shops on Route 1.  Just a small preview of what's to come as there more and more development in the area!
 
That being said - some time back I'd heard that there was a possibility that all of the University of MD Shuttle routes would be open to residents of Riverdale Park (in addition to being available to residents of College Park, I believe?).  I know some routes are open to businesses that are on River Road and the surrounding area, but has anyone heard any more about this?  I was thinking if the MD Shuttles were available, it might make it easier fo residents to get around to the shops in Hyattsville, College Park, etc., plus possibly ease some of the parking problems.  Since the Metro/MARC accident a few years back, we don't have any Metrobus service going through town and as "The Bus" doesn't run on weekends we have NO bus service going through town on Saturdays and Sundays.  If we can't use the Univ. of MD. Shuttles, it would be nice to have some sort of Hyattsville-Riverdale Park-College Park shuttle.
