*Arts Council Launches Gerald King Realism Painting Scholarship *

*Riverdale Park, MD. April 19, 2012 – *The Riverdale Park Arts Council
today announced the creation of a innovative teaching apprenticeship
program with renown Realism painter Gerald King who aims to advance a
student’s education and understanding in painting and drawing in the
classic tradition of realism and naturalism. This internship is given to
someone interested in improving their drawing and painting skills. It
involves a cognitive understanding on form, rather than purely intuitive
responses to things observed in nature. Education is emphasized over
recreation and entertainment. Study categories for the year-long study
program include painting from life, figurative drawing, composition, and
landscape.

The student/apprentice will receive a weekly three-hour training session at
Gerald King’s studio Atelier Royal in Riverdale Park for 50 weeks (one
year) paid for by the grant. The program is offered at either 10:30 am to
1:30pm (morning session) or 7 to 10 pm (night session) each Thursday. The
times and day are fixed and applicants for the grant must be available to
take training one of those periods.

Applicants must be 16 years of age or older. The students may be, but are
not required to be, enrolled in collegiate or other degree programs in art
or other disciplines, although preference in selecting the individual to
receive the grant may be given to individuals who demonstrate
contemporaneous or prior/previous training/experience in art.
Geographically, preference will be given to individuals who reside/live in
surrounding nearby communities – e.g. Riverdale Park, University Park,
Hyattsville, MD.

Applications may be made by filling out the RPAC 2012 GERALD KING ART
TRAINING APPRENTICESHIP STUDY PROGRAM application form, which should be
postmarked no later than Friday, April 27, 2012 and mailed to: GERALD KING
APPRENTICESHIP STUDY PROGRAM, C/O RPAC, 5008 Queensbury Rd., Riverdale
Park. Md. 20737. Additionally supporting materials that may include a
portfolio of up to three examples of original art work and up to two
letters of recommendation from anyone familiar with the character/talents
of the applicant are required. Application can also be made via e-mail by
sending your information & JPEG images to: RPARTSCOUNCIL at GMAIL.COM.
Finalists (top individuals as chosen by the RPAC selection committee) may
be invited to come for an interview at Atelier Royal to meet Gerald King
and to see the studio where they will work if they are selected.
