In the same week that Safeway pulled out of the Route 1 corridor, Whole
Foods moved a giant step closer to opening its first Prince George's County
store in the same region. In its February issue, the *Hyattsville Life and
Times* covers the Planning Board's unanimous approval of the Cafritz
rezoning proposal that would allow for the new, upscale grocery:

Meanwhile, an editorial by yours truly mourns the departure of Safeway and
what it signifies about the end of an American way of life. And on a less
elegiac note, Hyattsville author Richard Morris marks Black History Month
by reminding Prince Georgians of an uglier side of their past: lynchings of
African-American residents in the 19th and 20th Centuries.

Learn also about a Hyattsville indie film festival, all you never wanted to
know about pigeons, locals with unusual jobs, and more.
