Greetings Mayor Archer, Mr. Rivas

I do not know if this type of assistance is available in Prince George's
County, however, I am Riverdale Park resident, but employed as Family
Services Coordinator for the District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA).
When such an emergency occurs with DC residents, the Red Cross and the
city's Office of the Tenant Advocate coordinates coverage of the emergency
expenses to house families in "participating" hotels.

Mr. Rivas, may I suggest you touch base with the DC Office of the Tenant
Advocate to determine if there is a comparable or exchange program with our
city/county. My contact is Ms. Tamela Tolton, also copied on this email,
so that she will know I have referred you. Also, attached is the form Ms.
Tolton uses when DCHA refers families for assistance-even if we cannot refer
the Park Tanglewood families to DC, it would be helpful to have the families
complete a form to make it easier for the Mayor's Office to coordinate
assistance for them. The second attachment is a form that families can
complete so that Riverdale Park residents who want to help can contact the
Mayor's Office (or your office) to determine what other needs the families
may have, in addition to housing needs.

NOTE: I rarely use this email address.. it is best to communicate with me at
isouthal at dchousing.org if a follow-up response is requested. (We just got
our home power restored this morning around 3am, I pray and wish the best
for the Park Tanglewood families). TAMELA, I HOPE YOU CAN HELP US IN MD.
I know that you will, if you can!

Subject: [RP TownTalk] Neighbors in need of temporary housing

Friends and neighbors,

As most of you know Park Tanglewood apartments was seriously damaged in last
Friday's storm and all residents were forced to vacate until the roof could
be re secured and electricity turned back on. As of now the building as a
whole has been reopened and all but 34 of the units are reoccupied--that's
the good news. The bad news is the 34 units that are not open to
rehabilitation will be undergoing restoration from water damage for about
the next 4 months. The folks who lived in those units need temporary
housing. Therefore if you have space available for rent please consider
making it available to folks.

Manager (and Councilman) Raymond Rivas is the contact person. He asked that
you contact him via email if possible at rayray2448 at comcast.net His cell is
202-2361950. He will provide you with the rental history of the person(s)
that would rent from you, and he states that the vast majority have been
good tenants for a long time. If you or someone you know has space please
reach out to Raymond and our neighbors in need.

Best wishes to all,

Vern
