As a part of its ongoing commitment to the environment and energy
conservation, Pepco is working with the Arbor Day Foundation to
educate customers about energy conservation and provide energy-saving
trees on a limited basis. By planting the "right tree in the right
place," customers can produce a landscape that will cool the home in
the summer, tame the winter winds and avoid collisions with power
lines and buildings

Energy Saving Trees is a research-based tool intended to educate and
help homeowners and utility companies save energy and money by
strategically planting trees.

The tool was made possible through a grant from The UPS Foundation.
Developed by the Davey Tree Expert Company, Arbor Day Foundation and
powered by i-Tree research.

UPS Foundation

The UPS Foundation is responsible for facilitating community
involvement to local, national, and global communities. Since
launching its global philanthropy program in 2004, The UPS Foundation
has invested more than $49 million in charitable activities beyond the
borders of the United States.

i-Tree

i-Tree is a consortium between U.S. Forest Service, the Davey Tree
Expert Company, Society of Municipal Arborists and the Arbor Day
Foundation conducting research and creating research-based tools to
help community and urban forestry.

Proven Benefits of a Strategically Planted Tree

Properly planted trees can save homeowners up to 20% on their energy bills.
The City of Sacramento is saving 13,500,000 kWh of electricity every
year from strategic tree planting.
In addition to energy savings these trees will provide tangible
benefits for the entire community such as improved air quality,
reduced stormwater runoff, a lower urban heat island affect, and a
lower carbon footprint.
