All,

If you didn't know, this is the 200th anniversary of the start of the War of 1812.  The Battle of Bladensburg Task Force will be hosting multiple events during the course of the next three years.  Check out www.battleofbladensburg1812.org for more information, including events.  However, there will be a particularly good one that you shouldn't miss - on Friday (see below).  If you are interested in helping (perhaps you have an early 19th century skill?) or would consider serving as a re-enactor (social life or military) or just want to know more, shoot me an email (aaron at marylandmilestones.org) or call 301-887-0777.

Thanks,
Aaron Marcavitch

Dear Friends,

2012 marks the beginning of the two-year bicentennial of the War of 1812, a war that is nearly forgotten today but was crucial for ensuring the survival of the United States as an independent country. Important battles were fought right around here, including the Battle of Bladensburg (we lost, and the White House was burned) and the Battle of Baltimore (we won, and The Star-Spangled Banner was written).

New Old Theater is premiering a new folk drama which musically reflects signal events surrounding the War of 1812. We are certain that this delightful dramatic piece will be both entertaining and educational, and we are preparing to present it at historical sites and community spaces around the Washington DC and Baltimore area.

A first performance is scheduled for College Park in one week, on Friday 9 March (see promotional paragraph below). Please come, and spread the word to anyone you know who may be interested in history, music, or theater!

THE PERILOUS FIGHT.

Experience the War of 1812 in the words of those who were there! Francis Scott Key and other figures of the past spring to life to honor the heroes, both sung and unsung, who endured our young nation’s struggle with Great Britain. This fast-moving War of 1812 folk drama was devised by New Old Theater from news of the time, poetry, letters, and patriotic songs from original printings.  The bombardment of Fort McHenry and The Star-Spangled Banner—are depicted with a moving panorama during the thrilling finale! A rare sneak preview of a world premier event!
