[RP TownTalk] Calvert House?

Hi,
As anyone who lives within earshot of the Calvert House knows, they play VERY LOUD dance music till all hours of the night. Yes, the place used to be a very nice restaurant, but recently they have been trying to switch it to a more club like atmosphere. I live across Route 1 from them and several times have had to call RPD at 330 am or later to get them to turn down their music so my sons and I can sleep. I'm not sure what the town sign means, but for those of us kept up all night by their "restaurant", maybe it will help.

  Subject: [RP TownTalk] Calvert House?

  Hi Vern

I just got back from the Calvert House and there's a sign on the entrance indicating that I should not enter the premises without permission from the Town. Rumor has it that the Town considers the Calvert House a dance hall. I've probably been there ~50 times and I've never seen anyone dancing there, just eating. After all it is a restaurant. What's going on?

Honestly Vern, I'm incensed that this sort of thing is going on in Riverdale. Is this what the Town calls economic development? Freydoun (spelling) has been there for 30+ years. A typical day for him is 10am to 4am. Does anyone on distribution work this hard? Is this how we take care of longtime business owners in this town? If there's an issue with karaoke or whatever, I'm sure Freydoun would be happy to stop that activity until the issue is resolved without the need for signs which state and I quote "No person is to enter the premises without permission of the Town".

Has anyone at the Town Hall considered the impact of this sign on Freydoun's business. How about his family or all of the people that work there. The revenue from his business is their lively hood. Is it the Town's intent to put him out of business and all of those people out of work? What about their families and their well being? I just talked to Susan (Fredoun's wife) and she told me the place has been dead since the sign was posted. He has a valid license to operate a restaurant. So what is the problem with him operating the restaurant?

I talked to one of the vet's at Lynn Animal Hospital and he told me that trash has been a problem behind their building recently. Freydoun told me a few days ago that he's been cleaning up the parking lot after he closes. I'm guessing that maybe some of the trash behind the building is from McDonald's patrons parking there after hours. I believe McDonalds is now open for 24 hours. It would be easy to determine if this is the case. Just check to see how much McDonald's trash is in the back of the Calvert House on a Saturday or Sunday morning.

I feel that the Town should be working with Freydoun to resolve this problem as if he were a college not an enemy. He's been here a lot longer than many of us. Doesn't this mean anything to the Town? He as his wife are good people and their business is an asset to Riverdale Park.

  Bruce

P.S. You've read my posts long enough to know I don't mince words. Bear with me if I don't have all of the facts straight. I did do some research on the issue. Please make the necessary corrections to anything I've written if applicable.
