There is a dog in my neighborhood who often gets out.  He is kinda scary looking as he runs toward you.  However, my solution......I carry a bag of treats with me on every walk  (basically they are for my dogs, but we will share)  I found that if I get a treat in my hand and say sit, stay , the loose dog will be happy to obey.  Maybe I have been just lucky, but its worth a try.

That's too bad.  Sounds like a regular dog that just got out accidentally; after all, if it meant to harm you or your dog, no amount of hand waving would have lured it away or stopped it from doing so.   Unfortunately, if it is the breed of dog that you describe, that dog will probably meet its maker at animal control simply by virtue of its looks.  Hopefully, the dog will get a reprive.  

Glad your dogs are fine and were not attacked; I know it can be a frightening thing to be run up on by a loose dog you don't know.  I'm not trying to dismiss or minimize what happened, but accidents happen and dogs sometimes get out.  I wish we could handle these matters in a way that doesn't mean certain death or displacement to a dog that doesn't really deserve it.

I was walking my two dogs near Sheridan and Lafayette when we were attacked by a 
ark brown pit bull type dog. My dogs are okay but it took a helpful neighbor to 
ure it away. Who are you and thank you so much. She said the police were 
alled. The dog last ran behind the green and brown house on Sheridan and 48th

Thanks so much for the heads-up.? It's a shame that ANYONE would let any dog run 
oose, isn't it?? Glad you and your dogs are ok, and I'll keep my eye out in 
ase I see the dog (I think a couple of people in my apartment building have 
itbulls, but they aren't what I'd call dark brown.? Too, I don't think they let

The dog was caught by Code Enforcement and turned over to animal control.
