It was reported at the February 4, 2013 Town Legislative Meeting that
the Community Parks and Playground Grant for Riverdale Road Park
($195,000) was included in the Governor’s budget. Your statement below
indicates that this is only 1/5 of the total cost. Can you advise where
the remaining $800,000 plus will come from to fund this project.

According to the concept plan, the majority of the property for this
project is owned by the MNCPPC. Is this going to be a community park for
use by all residents, or will it be turned over to the PG Cnty School
Board for use by the Riverdale Park Elementary School exclusively.

I wanted to share with everyone especially new residents a project which the town has been working on to improve the playground at Riverdale Elementary, enhance play space in general, and create additional parking for teachers, visitors, and when the school is not in session visitors to town hall. The proposal is below. Thanks to the work of the town, especially Sara Imhulse, the town will be receiving a grant for 1/5 of the costs of this project in a month. Meetings over the next few months with key partners--PGCPS and MNCPPC--will hopefully fulfill some of the additional expenses. There is lots more work to be done on this project, but I credit the town with moving an idea closer to implementation which will benefit the school, our kids, and our whole community.
