Earth Day Cleanup is a Success!
The Anacostia Watershed Society would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone
-- our volunteers, sponsors, site leaders, partners, and more -- who helped make
 our annual Anacostia River Earth Day Cleanup and Celebration a success on April
 20th!  A special shout out of thanks also goes to our title sponsor CSX and to 
the Seafarers Yacht Club, who started the Earth Day Cleanup more than two decades
ago and continues to partner with us on this great event.
More than 2,300 committed volunteers joined us to remove trash and debris from our
streams, streets, and river -- making our watershed community a better place for
 all.
Volunteers collected 49 TONS of trash and debris, including: more than 2,000 bags
of trash; 946 bags of recycling; 395 tires; and an assortment of other items like
shopping carts, basketballs, mattresses, and chairs.
What an impact!
Again, we'd like to thank you and everyone who came out and made the day a success!
 We appreciate your hard work and effort, and hope to see you again at one of our
upcoming events and at next years Earth Day!

docked to unload trade goods? How did Dueling Creek get its name? And where is the
best spot to see Bald Eagles in Washington, DC? (Hint - it's not on our coins!).

Capitol Hill neighborhood singers and storytellers bring their songs and stories
 about the Anacostia River to the Hill Center. This family-friendly event introduces
the Anacostia, where work to restore the environment is creating cleaner water and
new recreation opportunities.

Upcoming Volunteer Events
Wetlands do great things for the river -- they provide needed habitat for birds 
and fish; help prevent flooding by acting like sponges; and cleanse river water 
by functioning as filters. With the help of volunteers like you, we are already 
on our way to successfully restoring two wetland areas along the river; but we need
your help to get the job done!
