*iverdale Park, MD. October 1, 2013* -- If it’s the first Saturday in
October, it’s Riverdale Park Day!

Saturday, October 5, noon to 5 pm! That’s when about 1,000 area residents
will converge on Riverside Park for a free day of pony rides, games,
exhibits, art-for-sale displays, music, fun and great food provided by area
vendors. The Maryland-National Park and Planning Commission’s mobile skate
park will be in place along with face painters, plasma screens for free
video games!

There will be hours of free, local music beginning at 1pm with *Mariachi Ay
Ay Ay* setting the tone with 60 minutes of energy-inducing high-stepping
music. The eight-member professional mariachi band is sure to make you
dance along the riverbanks. Riverdale Park’s own *Michael Sevener &
Friends*sweetens the deal with Michael’s distinctive brand of
Americana music. At
3, the US Army’s 7-member *Dixieland Band* takes you on a trip to New
Orleans without the airport hassles, performs all-American jazz in the
tradition of the great King Oliver, Louis Armstrong and the Bix Beiderbecke
bands. Then the *Redwine Jazz Band* follows with an hour of traditional
jazz featuring clarinetist Ben Redwine, guitarist Tom Mitchell and bassist
John Previti.

The renown *Parkdale High School String Quartet led by instructor Everett
Washington *will perform off stage beginning at 2 pm while a DJ offers the
sights and sounds of the event throughout the day beginning at noon.
Riverdale Park Day celebrates the Town’s 93 years of heritage and gives
residents a great opportunity to meet local elected officials, along with
members of the Riverdale Fire Department and the Riverdale Park Police
Department. Members of various local service organizations including the
Riverdale Lions Club and the Riverdale Park Arts Council will also be on
hand to familiarize residents with the opportunities they offer. The Lions
Club will present the *2nd Annual Riverdale Lions Club – Jonathan Ebbeler
Scholarship Awards* on stage at 4 pm. Don’t miss it!

*Getting There – Riverside Park *is at *5801 Riverside Drive, Riverdale
Park, Md 20737*. Attendees are encouraged to use the free parking at
Riverdale Elementary School and walk to the park just two blocks away. *From
the parking lot:* cross Riverdale Road toward Taylor Road. Take the first
left onto Taylor Road, then left on to Riverside Drive. You’re there! It’s
free and you’ll have fun.
