Sharing this for Ruthie Mundell of Community Forklift:

On Saturday, October 19, 2013, from 9am - 5pm, Community Forklift will be hosting "Upcycle Your Life", a community expo linking food to health. Address: 4671 Tanglewood Drive, Edmonston, MD 20781 (In the Port Towns area, near Hyattsville). The Forklift's large warehouse is located in the Port Towns area of Prince George's County, between Kenilworth Ave and Route 1 in the town of Edmonston. Directions and a full schedule of events can be found at www.CommunityForklift.org.

Many local homeowners know that Community Forklift is a thrift store where you can donate or shop for home improvement supplies & architectural salvage. However, the nonprofit organization has always aimed to be more than just a warehouse full of old house parts. It operates as a working model for living sustainably, embracing diversity, actively serving the community and helping neighbors in need. The upcoming expo falls directly in line with Community Forklift's mission: to lift up local communities by reducing waste, creating green jobs, making repairs affordable and providing free access to educational opportunities and local resources.

"Upcycle Your Life" will empower Prince George's County residents to be their best selves by encouraging wellness and healthy living. The expo will feature information about local resources and services, free healthcare, nutrition, food access, growing your own food and maintaining physical and mental wellness. Here's some of what's in store:
· An interactive garden arbor building workshop: 9am - 11am
· Food forestry workshop: 11am - 12pm
· Fresh Produce Food Distribution: 12pm - 3pm
· Health screenings: 12pm - 3pm
· Tour of nearby Eco City Farms: 12:30pm
· Energy Savings Program for MD residents: 1:30pm - 2:30pm
Affordable housing workshop: 3pm - 4pm

Many other local organizations have partnered with Community Forklift to make this a fun-filled educational experience for all. These include the Capital Area Food Bank, Priority Partners, CHEARS, Eco City Farms, End Time Harvest Ministries, The Faith Based Collaborative Outreach Group, Shine Massage Studio, Matrix Energy Services, Gap Busters, Inc., University of Maryland Extension Food Supplement Nutrition Education, Green Door, Housing Counseling Services and Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.

Community Forklift is the DC area's largest thrift store of surplus and salvaged building materials. Hours: noon - 6 p.m. Tuesday; 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; and 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The thrift store will be open from 9 am to 6 pm on October 19th.
